Introduction and Problem Statement

Haven is a one-stop solution for gamers to find and purchase the right gaming equipment, providing personalized recommendations and verified user reviews. The project aimed to address key challenges gamers face, such as decision fatigue, unclear product specifications, and unreliable customer feedback. Over a period of 1.5 months, I worked as the UX designer, focusing on delivering a seamless, user-centered experience for both casual gamers and professional e-sports participants.

User Research and Key Insights

To design an experience tailored to the needs of gamers, I conducted thorough user research, including both qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys. My research uncovered that while gamers prioritize technical specifications and affordability, the lack of personalized recommendations and inconsistent reviews are significant pain points. This understanding led to a design that emphasized authenticity, trust, and simplicity in product discovery, helping gamers make informed decisions faster and with more confidence.

Competitive Analysis and Opportunities

A competitive audit of platforms like Amazon and TLG Gaming highlighted areas where Haven could stand out. These platforms offered extensive product catalogs but lacked strong personalization features and reliable customer reviews. This analysis inspired us to build features such as verified reviews from real users and a recommendation system based on each gamer’s preferences and play style, ensuring that Haven met the unmet needs of the target audience.

Ideation and Prototyping

During the ideation phase, I focused on creating solutions that would enhance usability and trust. Key features included personalized recommendations, verified profile reviews, and a streamlined checkout process. Paper prototypes allowed me to quickly visualize different concepts and gather early feedback, which guided the development of low-fidelity wireframes. The iterative testing of these designs helped me identify usability issues and improve the overall flow of the app before transitioning to high-fidelity prototypes.

Design System and Visual Design

Consistency was a key focus throughout the design process. I developed a design system that ensured uniformity in typography, color schemes, and component behavior across the app. This design system helped maintain a cohesive brand identity while improving navigation and the overall visual appeal. I also ensured that accessibility was a priority, with features such as screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, and clear font sizes to accommodate users with varying abilities.

Usability Testing and Iteration

Usability testing was conducted with participants of varying gaming experience levels. The tests focused on key tasks like navigating the homepage, filtering products, and understanding product specifications. Based on the feedback, I iteratively refined the design to improve clarity, enhance the onboarding experience, and optimize the checkout flow. This process ensured that the final product was intuitive, user-friendly, and catered specifically to the needs of gamers.

Impact and Results

Haven successfully transformed the gaming equipment shopping experience by providing a more intuitive, personalized, and trustworthy platform. The user-centered design approach resulted in higher user satisfaction, improved conversion rates, and reduced time-on-task for product discovery and checkout. The verified review system and personalized recommendations significantly enhanced the trust users had in the platform, making Haven a standout solution in a competitive market.
